I personally liked how this chapter focused on Ender's siblings back at home. It shows how their life has been affected since Ender's disappearance. Peter and Valentine's true feelings about Ender and most importantly each other are revealed. I found that Ender's leaving caused other feelings to arise between Valentine and Peter. There is a lot of emotions between the three during chapter nine. Valentine knows that she can manipulate Peter even though she still follows through on his plan. Peter is trying to find a way to get his political statements out and "save the world". He wants to show that children are capable of a lot. Ender on the other hand is receiving so much respect that it is irritating him.
"So, a twelve year old boy and his sister are going to save the world?"
Kids always want to prove that they are capable of a lot but cannot because they are hidden by the label of kids are too immature to do anything. The quote applies to me because people sometimes think I can't do something because I am younger than them.
"I didn't hate you, I loved you both! But, I had to have control. Do you understand?"
This shows that Peter did love his siblings but he had to choose power over love. I feel this way sometimes when my parents are hard on me but in the end they do show my love and power does not overtake them.
