There were many significant events that contributed to the plot in chapter 14. In the conversation between Graff and Admiral Chamrajnagar they discuss the three month vacation on Earth. Together they argue, but in the end they realize that all of this pushing and preparation is for Ender's sake. Ender hated Eros because of its shape and environment. He felt as if he was constantly surrounded by strangers. Ender felt even more uncomfortable when he was told that Eros was previously inhabited by buggers. While he learned in his studies, he played the simulator, a perfect video fame of controlling a single fighter and destroying an enemy. Most of the skills he learned in battle school transferred to the simulator. Eventually the holographic game became more advanced he controlled a squadron. Then, Ender was introduced to a new teacher who sat in his room one day. The door leading to the room was locked. The man didn't talk at all and just sat there and watched. He started to do exercises to pass time. The old man grabbed his leg and brought him to the floor. This made Ender furious. The man teaches Ender that there is no teacher but the enemy, an important lesson with great meaning to him and Ender. He reveals that Mazer Rackham is the name of the teacher. Mazer became his teacher and they watched videos of old invasions and learned tactics and strategies together. For the first time in his life, Ender had a role model to look up to. Mazer isn't dead because of the miracle of relativity. It slowed the aging process so he would be alive for when Ender arrived. Ender asks to see the tape from the second invasion. He sees how Mazer defeated the buggers, by killing the queen bugger killed all of the buggers. A device that can help the humans in the Little Doctor. It can penetrate the bugger shield. After this, the simulator changed. Ender now had a ship and controlled an army consisting of Alai, Bean, Petra, Dink, Crazy Tom, Shen, Hot Soup, Fly Molo, and Carn Carby. They continued to fight battles through the simulator together. Ender feels as if the battles were manipulated and Mazer is cheating. Eventually Petra broke down. He has been having bad dreams and isn't doing well mentally. Then, there was a battle different from the rest. Mazer Rackham informs Ender that is his final examination. In this simulation there is a planet and the enemy outnumbered him a thousand to one. Ender defeated the buggers by destroying the mothership. Everyone spectating cheered. Mazer Rackham tells Ender that the simulations were actual battles and Ender won the war. Afterwords Ender slept. While there is celebration in space, there was war on Earth concerning the Warsaw Pact. Ender still continued to have nightmares despite the ending of the bugger war. When he awoke, his friends visited him. The chapter ends by Ender and his friends laughing about being kids.
