In chapter 9 of Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings Brady goes to a butterfly garden and is instantly reminded of Amanda. When Amanda died Mrs Parks got rid of everything that belonged making it appear that Amanda never existed. I think that Mrs Parks did this for two reasons. The first is that if anyone came over that didn't know about Amanda's death they most likely would ask Mrs Parks and rip open painful memories of the daughter that she lost. Another reason is that if the pictures and baby toys were kept out it would give her feelings of guilt and sadness. The items would constantly remind her of her baby's death.
